Dr. Andrew Jacobson Receives Major NSF Award

Andrew Jacobson
The Department congratulates Dr. Andrew Jacobson, Assistant Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences, on receiving a major grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Jacobson will use the award, which totals $847,218, to purchase a Multi-Collector Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometer (MC-TIMS) and support a lab technician for three years. Acquisition of the MC-TIMS will allow Jacobson to measure Ca, Os, Pb, Sr, Th, and U isotope
abundance variations in Earth, biologic, and extraterrestrial materials. These measurements will
support his research in aqueous geochemistry, ground and surface water hydrology,
sedimentology, chemical oceanography, geomicrobiology, cosmochemistry,
chemostratigraphy, and climate change, both modern and ancient.
