EPS Major Rene Boiteau Wins Churchill Prize

Rene Boiteau
EPS congratulates departmental major and WCAS senior Rene Boiteau on receiving a coveted Churchill Scholarship for graduate study at the University of Cambridge. Awarded by the Winston Churchill Foundation, the prize recognizes outstanding academic achievement and research potential among the best students from the nation's top colleges. For this year's competition, 14 students were chosen from a pool of 99 finalists selected to compete for the award by their respective universities. The Churchill prize marks Boiteau's second prestigious national academic award in as many years. Prior to his junior year, Rene won a Goldwater Scholarship, considered by many to be the most prominent academic award given to undergraduate math and science majors in the United States.
Boiteau plans to spend his time at Cambridge on paleclimatology research designed to reveal the role of ocean chemistry in regulating greenhouse gas levels and global climate change. Upon completing his work in England, he will return to the U.S. to pursue a Ph.D. in the earth sciences.
