Geoscientists at Northwestern University
seek to unravel Earth's complex past and present through
field observation and laboratory analysis. We study
rocks of all sizes from elements and minerals to
Earth's deep interior and terrestrial planets. Employing techniques and knowledge from disparate fields such as geology, chemistry, physics, computer
science, and mathematics, our research reflects the multidisciplinary
character of Earth Science. Our students are immersed in a
broad range of disciplines and acquire the observational
and technical skills needed to answer geoscientific
questions. Faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and students
alike are supported by professional office staff.
