CONTINENTAL CRUST IS LESS DENSE AND THUS "FLOATS" HIGHER DUE TO ISOSTASY

THIS DIFFERENCE PERSISTS- AND THE CONTINENTS SURVIVE -BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO LIGHT (LOW DENSITY) TO SUBDUCT INTO THE MANTLE
