Postdoctoral Research Associate Positions Available

EPS is seeking Postdoctoral Research Associates in deep time ocean acidification and numerical climate modeling.

Two 2-year post-doctoral research associate positions are available in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Northwestern University to investigate deep time ocean acidification events and climate change impacts and extreme events, respectively. Research for the first position will involve analysis of multiple stable and radiogenic isotope systems, including B, C, Ca, S, and stable Sr. Applications are encouraged from candidates with experience in general and clean room chemistry, gas source and thermal ionization mass spectrometry, carbonate geochemistry, sedimentology, and numerical modeling. The second position will focus on extreme climatic events, their public health and infrastructural impacts, and their underlying meteorological drivers. Expertise in climate modeling, atmospheric dynamics, and statistical analysis are ideal. Topics of interest include: air quality, heat waves, and land surface processes.

Both positions are part of a team science initiative on climate change and carbon science in collaboration with colleagues in Chemistry and the Institute for Policy Research. Review of applications will begin on April 15, 2017. The start-date is September 1, 2017. Candidates must have a PhD by the start date. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants should submit a cover letter, statement of research interests and experience, CV, and list of three references, including e-mail addresses and phone numbers, with the subject line “ACID postdoc” or "Climate postdoc" to earth@northwestern.edu; electronic submission of a single pdf file is preferred; or Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Northwestern University, 2145 Sheridan Rd., Evanston, IL 60208. Questions about the ocean acidification position can be addressed to Matt Hurtgen (matt@earth.northwestern.edu), Andrew Jacobson (adj@earth.northwestern.edu), or Brad Sageman (brad@earth.northwestern.edu). Questions about the climate modeling position can be addressed to Daniel Horton (daniel.horton@northwestern.edu).

Northwestern University is an EO/AA employer.
