Glacial park field trip
We toured features remaining from the last glaciation in McHenry County,
about an hour away from campus, to see how glaciation has shaped the Chicago area.

After hiking to the top of a glacial kame deposited at the edge of the ice
sheet, we had lunch and enjoyed an excellent view of the area.

After lunch, we toured Volo bog, a bog covered with a vegetation mat that formed in
a kettle hole lake remaining from a large chunk of glacial ice.

We walked on a floating boardwalk that took us into the center of the bog and learned
how the bog resulted from the changing climate after the ice age.
