On the brink of the new millenium, we are still helpless in protecting ourselves from natural disasters, among them earthquakes. We have developed many poweful, efficient tools to address different aspects of the issue, but we are modestly still at the beginning. One of the most
powerful tools at hand is seismology. Jointly applied to solve the
issues, along with other approaches such as thermodynamics and acoustics,
we are eagerly gathering as much of data as possible.
Therefore (in a way to justify the means!) curious apparatus are built
to just feel more comfortable -- seismometers. We are enjoying the
company (!) of one here at EPS (see RESEARCH).
