People

Many vital contributions by people enabled SPREE research on the Mid-continent Rift and surroundings.

Firstly, we are grateful for the generosity of all private landowners and public land managers for allowing the installation of SPREE equipment on and in their land.

Secondly, we enjoyed the enthusiasm and generously provided labor in diversely challenging conditions of the field crew, which included Brian Bagley, Grace Barcheck, George Beduhn, Clayton Brengman, Alexey Bryskin, Fiona Darbyshire, Michael Fort, Rachel Gesserman, Franklin Koch, Suzan van der Lee, Simon Lloyd, Jessica Lodewyk, Xiaoyue Ma, Miguel Merino, Jeremy Mitchell, Colleen Moore, Martin Pratt, Heather Relyea, Willa Samuelson, Tim Sandmann, Mulu Serzu, Patrick Shore, Tao Wang, Doug Wiens, Michael Witek, Shawn Wei, Zach Weinfurter, Allen Wyrot, Taras Zaporozan, and our four field area managers, whose dedication went above and beyond: Trevor Bollmann, Justin Revenaugh, Emily Wolin, and Ghassan Al Eqabi.

Ghassan Al Eqabi aggregated field data and forwarded them to the PASSCAL instrument center for further processing into SEED volumes for archival and distribution at and by the IRIS Data Management Center. Emily Wolin performed outstanding data quality control on the raw data and on data processed for research by fellow SPREE researchers.

Thirdly, we are grateful to William Connolly, Jackie Gonzalez, Pete Hollings, William Osei, Justin Revenaugh, and Ian Williams for facilitating essential logistics.

Fiona Darbyshire, Andrew Frederiksen, Suzan van der Lee, Justin Revenaugh, Doug Wiens, and Michael Wysession led SPREE-data driven research projects. These faculty also contributed to the preparation of the SPREE grant proposal, along with Seth Stein and Donna Jurdy, who, with Carol Stein, generated further attention to the Mid-continent Rift outside of SPREE.

Karen Tekverk helped prepare us for SPREE with geological knowledge and calculations of lava volumes. Dan Bartz identified local seismic events. Victoria Kim sketched SPREE findings into a cartoon of the rift system and helped formatting the SPREE newsletter. Trevor Bollmann created the SPREE web site and Grace Barcheck created the SPREE twitter account.

Ghassan Al Eqabi, Trevor Bollmann, Ben Chichester, Anna Foster, Oyekunle Ola, Weisen Shen, Emily Wolin, and Hao Zhang effectively utilized SPREE data in research on the deep structure and evolution of the North-American mid-continent and on the Mid-continent Rift. Suzan van der Lee is the lead principal investigator (PI) and organized all aspects of the research project (SPREE).
